Sending your little one to daycare is a big step, filled with excitement and perhaps a touch of nervousness for both of you. Preparing a well-packed daycare bag can ease the transition and ensure your child has everything they need for a comfortable and happy day. Here’s a helpful guide on what to include in your child’s daycare bag:

Essentials for Comfort and Care

  • Extra Clothing: Accidents happen! Pack at least two complete changes of clothes, including tops, bottoms, socks, and underwear. Consider the weather and choose appropriate attire. For our younger friends in infant daycare centers, remember extra layers.
  • Diapers and Wipes: If your child isn’t fully potty-trained, diapers are a must. Include enough diapers for the day, plus a small pack of baby wipes. Don’t forget diaper rash cream if needed.
  • Comfort Items: A familiar blanket, stuffed animal, or small toy can provide comfort and security, especially during nap time or moments of separation anxiety. Be sure to check with your daycare center about their policies on comfort items.

Feeding Supplies

  • Bottles and Formula/Breast Milk: If your child is bottle-fed, pack pre-made bottles with the correct amount of formula or breast milk for each feeding. Label each bottle clearly with your child’s name and the date.
  • Food and Snacks: Depending on your daycare’s meal schedule, you may need to pack breakfast, lunch, and/or snacks. Choose healthy and nutritious options that your child enjoys. Be aware of any allergy restrictions at the center.
  • Sippy Cup or Water Bottle: Staying hydrated is important! Pack a sippy cup or water bottle filled with water for your child to drink throughout the day.

Other Important Items

  • Medications: If your child requires any medication during the day, provide it in its original packaging with clear instructions for administration. Be sure to complete any necessary forms required by the daycare.
  • A Change of Shoes: Pack an extra pair of shoes that are appropriate for indoor activities, in case your child’s outdoor shoes get wet or dirty.
  • Labeled Bags: Utilize labeled, reusable bags to keep items organized. Designate bags for soiled clothing, clean clothes, and feeding supplies.
